Melav Slih
United Kingdom
Where in the world?
Overview
Over the years, Melav Slih recognized the need to strengthen their soft skills to become a leader in the energy sector. As the founder of Kurdistan Environmental Youth (KEY), Melav sought guidance on team management and motivating volunteers, leading her to apply for the Student Energy Career Training (SECT) Program as part of its inaugural cohort.
Having first encountered Student Energy at the 2019 Summit in London, Melav was inspired to start a chapter at their university in Groningen. Their presidency at SEC Groningen allowed her to develop project management skills and engage in important topics like mental health and youth engagement. The SECT program further enhanced her skills in project management and energy science communication, particularly through a project on hydrogen’s role in decarbonizing heavy industry.
The SECT training has had a lasting impact, influencing her work, master’s studies in Sustainable Technology, and daily life. KEY has since grown, forming partnerships with international NGOs, and Melav has transitioned from a software engineer to a sustainability analyst at Ferroamp in Stockholm. Melav looks forward to continuing their development with the foundation laid by the SECT program.
