Programs
We empower young people to accelerate the sustainable energy transition through our four core programs:
- Chapters: We currently have 40+ global, student-led Student Energy Chapters hosted at post-secondary institutions.
- Energy System Map: Our digital Energy System Map has reached over 3 million users.
- International Student Energy Summit (SES): We have hosted six biennial youth-led summits since 2009, and SES is the largest student-led conference on energy in the world.
- Space for Youth: We create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with actors in the energy system – governments, companies and other institutions – to elevate the role of youth in decision-making and planning.
To better integrate our four core programs and grow their impact, we have developed several new cross-cutting initiatives that focus on skill-building and global collaboration: the Student Energy Leaders Fellowship, Greenpreneurs, and the Global Youth Energy Outlook.
The Alumni Network connects alumni of Student Energy programs to one another, to opportunities in their regions, and with Student Energy globally.
The Global Youth Energy Outlook is designed to be the definitive tool for understanding what young people want for the future of energy. The first report of its kind, the Global Youth Energy Outlook is an entirely youth-led research project that aims to connect with 50,000 young people from around the world.
Greenpreneurs is a cross-cutting virtual social entrepreneurship incubator supporting youth-led solutions to global sustainable development challenges.
The Leaders Fellowship provides core energy systems education and builds future work skills for young people to take action on the energy system, through a 10-month web-based program paired with mentorship and a team community project.
The SevenGen Indigenous Youth Energy Summit unites over 200 Indigenous youth from across Canada fand commits to empowering both Indigenous youth and energy kin to continue improving connections and understandings for a shared energy vision. To sustainably and responsibly impact the global economy and energy landscape, we must include Indigenous ideology for the greater health of all entities on earth.
The aim of Student Energy’s Space for Youth program is to work with governments, companies, and other organizations to facilitate meaningful, equitable dialogue and collaboration between young people and decision-makers.
