Our Strategic Pillars: 2024 Achievements

2024 saw us staying true to our “roots”, our people, our systems, and foundations, while boldly expanding our “horizons”, new pathways paved for championing growth and youth innovation across the globe. Here’s how we drove change across our four strategic pillars:

Global and Local Community Building

In 2024, Student Energy strengthened its community engagement both locally and globally. We fostered vital connections at the SevenGen Indigenous Youth Energy Summit and through our Net Zero in our Neighborhood and Chapters initiatives. On a global scale, we welcomed a record-breaking 1,600+ applications for our Fellowship, engaging over 550 youth participants, and launched our digital Programs Map to showcase youth-led projects worldwide.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to bring the Student Energy Summit (SES) to Latin America for the first time, convening in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Career Pathways and Grantmaking for Youth

Recognizing the financial and structural barriers youth face in the energy sector, we mobilized over $130,000 in direct to youth funds in 2024, including wraparound support and honorariums for accessible programs. We deepened mentorship and coaching initiatives, establishing robust regional pathways in Canada, Vietnam, and Sub-Saharan Africa for our Guided Projects and Career Training programs. We worked strategically with partners like Global Mentorship Initiative and New Energy Nexus to create tailored pathways connecting youth to mentorship and employment opportunities.

Beyond direct funding, we acted as a bridge to help youth leverage additional supports through partnerships with organizations like UNDP, Youth4Climate, and ATCO.

Strong, Supportive Organizational Systems

We strengthened our organizational roots, transforming financial systems with QBO implementation, enhancing transparency through refined revenue recognition and quarterly budget narratives. Alongside that, we organized internal team-led trainings and management coaching, enabling us to steward CAD $3.11 million in funding across 2024 and 2025.

High-Impact Communications and Pathways for Youth Engagement

We revolutionized how we share our story and engage with youth globally by streamlining our communications with firm timelines and standards, boosting our efficiency and digital reach. We launched the Closing the Gap report, and the Youth Cities Challenge, alongside activations at key global events including New York Climate Week. We also began developing a podcast and documentary series to further amplify youth voices, and launched our new website in early 2025 for our growing global community.

Our Unique Value Proposition

This year’s achievements underscore our unique value proposition: leveraging an unparalleled global network of 50,000 young energy leaders to drive tangible youth-led change. When young people are given the tools, resources, and platforms, they have the power to be strong drivers of climate action and solutions.
