Student Energy (SE) is a global youth-led organization that empowers young people to accelerate the energy transition through developing programs geared towards community building, energy education, capacity building, and creating spaces for youth to shape their energy future. Student Energy Chapters is an opportunity for students to establish a local branch of the organization on their post-secondary campus as a club or partnership society.
The SE Chapters program was created to unite youth within local contexts, as well as across the globe, and build long-lasting communities that facilitate meaningful youth engagement. It provides students with the tools and resources to take charge of sustainable energy initiatives for their communities. By leveraging our organizational brand and knowledge, we empower students to become energy leaders and drive change on a local and global level.
Our Chapters program offers a unique opportunity for post-secondary students to build lasting communities and drive impact that extends beyond their time in school, empowering newer generations of passionate students and leaders. Our program emphasizes the development of leadership through direct mentorship on soft skill development from SE staff and alumni, as well as the cultivation of a global network of like-minded peers. By joining our Chapters program, youth will be part of a community that fosters leadership development, promotes sustainability, and creates a positive impact on our energy future.
Check out the Chapters listed below to see if there is a Student Energy Chapter in your region that you can join. If there isn’t, you can start one.
Chapters are quickly becoming the most in-demand program for Student Energy, with over 50 Chapters worldwide and many more on a waiting list.Collectively, our Chapters engage with over 30,000 people a year through their energy projects, educational initiatives, and community-building events.
Check out some Chapter Events that have been hosted in our community below!
Our chapter at the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY) hosted a recurrent energy podcast that covered themes such as interviewing youth on campus for their opinions on the current energy state, progress and obstacles of the energy transition in their local community, and much more! Each week they uploaded a new podcast to Spotify to be shared with their local community and further.
Our chapter at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) hosted a networking games night, where they invite students from their campus to join the chapter in playing games such as Chess, Scrabble, and more to get to know each other while having fun! This is a great example of how our chapters really are community hubs, and we want you to have fun while also getting to know other energy-passionate youth!
Each year, our chapter at University of Groningen (UG), based in the Netherlands, hosts a symposium at the end of the school year where they invite speakers from across the globe to join them, virtually and in-person, to speak on energy related topics. The team is deep in the process of planning their 2023 Symposium which will be on the topic “Impacts of Global Events on Energy”.
Our chapter at Central American University (UCA), based in El Salvador, is putting on a hybrid-model webinar series featuring a range of topics related to renewable energy. Each event is hosted in person on their campus while being live streamed and recorded for virtual and future viewing. The duality of this platform increases accessibility for their audience and allows for more people to be able to participate and experience each webinar. Their topics range from covering the basics of renewable energy concepts to exploring the circular economy, and more!
Our chapter at the University of Manitoba (U of M), based in Canada, is carrying out a very exciting technical project. After the donation of an empty shipping container, the team has been working extremely hard to turn it into a solar heated greenhouse, with the intention of eventually distributing it to rural and Indigenous communities in Northern Manitoba. This will secure access to fresh greens year round for communities that cannot do so due to the harsh winter months. This Chapter developed this project under the Student Energy Fellowship Program in 2022. They have taken their project further by applying to the Student Energy Guided Projects program which provides them with direct funding and mentorship to support the continued development of their project.
Our chapter program allows overlap from other SE programs, so participants are always invited to apply for any of our other programs and opportunities as well!

Running a chapter demands commitment in terms of participation and time, with the number of hours varying depending on your planned activities and objectives. In general, there are a number of activities that will require your active participation to ensure you get the full benefits of the program and set up your chapter for success:
Establishing a strong campus community and enhancing your club’s presence is vital for a thriving university club. This involves connecting with potential members, forging partnerships, organizing events, and generating engaging content on social media.
Actively recruiting for your chapter is essential for creating a sustainable and engaging group. Engage with students and promote your chapter in informative and captivating ways. Ultimately, your chapter should be a fun and welcoming environment where members collaborate with friends and peers on issues they’re passionate about.
Regularly check in with your executive team, members, committees, and volunteers to ensure collaborative progress towards both the chapter’s goals and each individual’s personal objectives.
A mandatory meeting with your assigned SE Chapters Coach, who serves as a mentor and valuable resource. These check-ins provide an opportunity to address questions, concerns, or requests for assistance, with guidance on topics ranging from event planning to strategic partnership. These meetings keep your chapter accountable, motivated, and well-supported.
As a compulsory aspect of the Student Energy Chapters program, chapters must submit monthly reports detailing their activities and projects. These reports enable us to gauge and showcase your chapter’s impact, celebrate successes, and identify trends to better support the Global Chapters Network.
Student Energy organizes monthly calls to facilitate cross-chapters collaboration and networking for an hour. While attendance isn’t mandatory, it is strongly encouraged, as these calls keep you informed about Student Energy events, opportunities, and news, and often provide valuable learning experiences and networking opportunities.
