Vishakh Nair

In January 2023, while halfway through their MSc program at the University of Nottingham, Vishakh Nair felt overwhelmed by the complexities of transitioning to a green energy economy. Introduced to the Student Energy Career Training (SECT) Program by a peer, Vishakh saw an opportunity to deepen his understanding of financial policies and work on projects beyond the scope of his engineering studies.

Over four months, Vishakh engaged with industry professionals passionate about sustainable energy, which inspired him to complement his engineering expertise with analytical and financial knowledge. Specialized workshops provided insights into developing clean projects financially and managing the associated risks. During the program’s project phase, Vishakh collaborated with a diverse team on a consulting project for Oco, focusing on carbon capture, utilization, and carbon markets. Vishakh’s experience sharpened his analytical skills and opened his eyes to innovative sustainable solutions.

Guidance from dedicated mentors like Julie, Career Training Manager at Student Energy, left a lasting impact. Vishakh completed the program with a renewed confidence in his ability to contribute to a just transition to a circular economy. The SECT program has been a transformative experience, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and network to pursue a career dedicated to advancing the global energy transition.
