2009
It started with a spark, three students lacked space as youth to engage on energy conversations and created their own platform: the Student Energy Summit gathering hundreds of young people from around the world

2018
10 years later, we scale our global Chapters program from 7 to 33 across five continents, and start working in partnership with development agencies to launch youth-led green enterprises

2021
We launched our Global Youth Energy Outlook, working with energy experts across continents, and surveying 41,000 youth to develop the first report of its size on youth perspectives on the energy transition. Later this year, we announced our UN Energy Compact as a commitment to scale up support for youth-led clean energy projects globally

Four Strategies to Empower Youth
These four strategic pillars address the primary challenges faced by young energy leaders: access to funding, career opportunities, community backing, and significant influence in policymaking. This serves as our blueprint for empowering a million youth to lead the sustainable energy future
STRATEGY 1:
Funding Youth Projects
We will mobilize catalytic funding to support 1,000 youth-led clean energy projects by launching new grant mechanisms and a dedicated regranting arm to ensure equitable access to financial resources.
According to ClimateWorks, youth-led climate justice initiatives received just 0.76% of climate grants from the largest climate foundations between 2019 and 2021 (ClimateWorks Foundation)
Strategy 2:
Accelerated Pathways for Clean Energy Careers
Student Energy will build accessible career pathways by expanding its Career Training and Mentorship programs, launching the Youth Energy Careers Hub, and supporting a total of 1,000 youth job placements in the clean energy sector, and 1,000 mentorship connections translating to 10,000+ hours of mentorship.
Strategy 3:
Community Activation
Student Energy will scale its global youth network by expanding Chapters, launching Regional Hubs, and facilitating regular local and global convenings to strengthen youth collaboration and community-led action.
Strategy 4:
Youth Influencing Policy and Processes
We will institutionalize youth participation in energy decision-making by supporting youth delegations, advancing youth-led research, and advising on inclusive policy processes across 30+ global forums.

The challenge

The global shift to clean energy is at a pivotal crossroads, demanding accelerated action to address the climate crisis and energy inequity. This is driven by a transition that is moving too slowly and leaving young people behind.
Our Vision 2030 recognizes that scaling up solutions hinges on one critical factor: empowering young people with the essential skills, resources, and community to drive change. We are strategically investing in this generation, transforming their potential into tangible clean energy projects and policy action worldwide.
How can you support?
Student Energy Vision 2030 requires a diverse alliance of youth and non-youth actors working together in driving the energy transition. We actively seek the support of partners, industry leaders, and community mentors.
We invite you to make a direct impact by aligning your organization through financial sponsorship, expert mentorship, or resource partnership.
